1948 Bowman was a baseball card set produced by the Bowman Gum Company. It was the first major set released after World War II. These cards are the basis for the 2001 Bowman Heritage Baseball set.
Distribution

The cards were distributed in 1 penny single card packs that also had a single piece of gum. Very few unopened packs exist today. The set was released in one series.
Base Set

The 48 card set measures 2-1/16” by 2-1/2” and features black and white photographs of the players and more than half the players in the set play for either the New York Giants or New York Yankees. 12 cards in the set are short printed. Rookie cards in this set included Warren Spahn, Enos Slaughter, Ralph Kiner, Johnny Mize, Stan Musial, Red Schoendienst, Yogi Berra, Marty Marion and Phil Rizzuto.

The cards were printed on 36 card sheets. As such, 12 cards were removed from the sheet early in the printing process in order to print cards numbered 37-48.
